The Last Word
Here, the Shahada no longer opens life.
It closes it.
After having been:
the first word taught,
the gateway into Islam,
the statement repeated in prayer,
the summit of faith,
the sincere expression of the heart,
it becomes the last imprint left by the soul.
Hadith 1
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever’s last words are:
‘Lā ilāha illā Allāh’
will enter Paradise.”
(Abū Dāwūd, authenticated)
Context:
This hadith places the Shahada at the threshold of the Hereafter.
It accompanies the believer to the final breath.
Life begins with it, and ends under its sign.
Hadith 2
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Prompt your dying ones to say:
‘Lā ilāha illā Allāh.’”
(Muslim)
Context:
This is not a constraint, but a mercy.
It reminds that the Shahada is a light offered when everything fades.
Even at the final moment, the door remains open.
Hadith 3
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever dies knowing
that there is no deity except Allah
will enter Paradise.”
(Muslim)
Context:
Here, the Shahada is linked not only to the tongue,
but to inner certainty.
Faith accompanies the soul beyond words.
This final theme closes the circle:
the Shahada is sown in childhood,
it is lived in life,
it is repeated in prayer,
it is renewed in the heart,
it is carried by sincerity,
and it becomes the last light at the moment of departure.
One single statement.
From the first breath…
to the last.

Invocation (Dua)
O Allah, in whose hands are our souls,
make the Shahada live within us throughout our lives.
Let it be present in our hearts,
upon our tongues,
and within our actions,
until our final moment.
Forgive us all our sins,
past, present, and future.
Do not burden us with trials beyond our strength,
and grant us ease in all that You decree for us.
Let the Shahada be written as our final word,
and let us return to You in a state of worship.
Grant us abundance in this life,
and al-Firdaws without reckoning in the Hereafter.
Make us cross the Ṣirāṭ at the speed of lightning,
and grant that we may join our Beloved,
the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺPeace and blessings of Allah be upon him.,
at the edge of his Basin.
Receive us with Your mercy,
and make this word
a light at the moment of departure
and a cause of salvation in the Hereafter.
