Qur’an
Welcome to this page.
By its very essence, the Shahada implies the embracing of Islam itself, and therefore the entirety of the Qur’an.
For pedagogical purposes, we have chosen to present here twenty-four Qur’anic occurrences in which the testimony of Oneness appears in a direct textual formulation, such as “There is no deity except Him” or “There is no deity except Allah”.
This choice aims only to offer a clear reference point in the Text, without claiming to exhaust its richness or to define its limits.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 255
“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is after them. And they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Throne (Kursiy) extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٌۭ وَلَا نَوْمٌۭ ۚ لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
Context:
This verse lies at the heart of a surah revealed in Madinah to organize the believing community. Here, the Qur’an proclaims the Oneness of Allah in a solemn passage, reminding of His absolute sovereignty over all things.
Surah Āl ʿImrān (3) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 6
“It is He who shapes you in the wombs as He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Mighty, the Wise.”
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ ۚ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
Context:
This verse appears at the beginning of a Medinan surah that establishes the foundations of tawḥīd and the Lordship of Allah. It affirms that Allah is the One who shapes the human being in the wombs as He wills, reminding that all creation is subject to His sole will, and that there is truly no deity except Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
Surah Āl ʿImrān (3) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 18
“Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him, and so do the angels and those endowed with knowledge, maintaining justice. There is no deity except Him, the Mighty, the Wise.”
شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمِ قَآئِمًۢا بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
Context:
Still in the Medinan context, this verse is part of an affirmation in the face of religious controversies. It presents the divine testimony of Oneness, joined by the angels and the scholars.
Surah Al-Anʿām (6) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 106
“Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord: there is no deity except Him. And turn away from the polytheists.”
ٱتَّبِعْ مَآ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
Context:
In a Meccan surah addressed to a polytheistic society, this verse commands the Prophet to hold fast to Revelation and to turn away from association, at the heart of a direct call to Oneness.
Surah Hūd (11) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 50
“And to ‘Ād [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said: ‘O my people, worship Allah. You have no deity other than Him. You are nothing but fabricators (of lies).’”
وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا مُفْتَرُونَ
Context:
This verse opens the account of the mission of the prophet Hūd Peace be upon him. to the people of ‘Ād. In a Meccan framework marked by the reminder of earlier peoples, the Qur’an reports the prophet’s initial call to worship Allah alone.
Surah Hūd (11) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 61
“And to Thamūd [We sent] their brother Ṣāliḥ. He said: ‘O my people, worship Allah. You have no deity other than Him. He created you from the earth and settled you in it. So seek His forgiveness, then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive.’”
۞ وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَٰلِحًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ هُوَ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا فَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى قَرِيبٌۭ مُّجِيبٌۭ
Context:
In the same surah, this verse introduces the mission of Ṣāliḥ Peace be upon him. The Qur’an places his call in continuity with the prophetic messages, reminding Thamūd of Allah’s Oneness and their earthly origin.
Surah Hūd (11) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 84
“And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb. He said: ‘O my people, worship Allah. You have no deity other than Him. And do not give short measure and weight…’”
۞ وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ وَلَا تَنقُصُوا۟ ٱلْمِكْيَالَ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ ۚ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكُم بِخَيْرٍۢ وَإِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍۢ مُّحِيطٍۢ
Context:
This verse opens the account of the mission of Shuʿayb عليه السلام. In a Meccan passage devoted to earlier peoples, the Qur’an reports the initial call to worship Allah alone before addressing the people’s social injustices.
Surah Ṭā-Hā (20) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 8
“Allah! There is no deity except Him. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names.”
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
Context:
This verse teaches that divinity belongs to Him alone, without partner or equal. His essence is one and unique, while the diversity of His Names reflects the many dimensions of His perfection. Each Name expresses a quality free from any flaw, conveying completeness, beauty, and absolute divine perfection.
Surah Ṭā-Hā (20) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 14
“Indeed, I am Allah: there is no deity except Me. So worship Me, and establish prayer for My remembrance.”
إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ
Context:
This Meccan verse is formulated as a direct divine declaration, affirming the absolute oneness of God and His exclusive right to be worshiped. It explicitly links the recognition of this oneness to the act of worshiping God and to the establishment of prayer as a practice of remembrance. The verse thus establishes a fundamental connection between the profession of divine oneness and ritual observance, emphasizing prayer as a means of remembrance and conscious awareness of Allah.
Surah Ṭā-Hā (20) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 98
“Your God is Allah: there is no deity except Him. He encompasses all things in knowledge.”
إِنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًۭا
Context:
This verse affirms that divinity belongs to Allah alone. It rules out every other object of worship and declares that no one besides Him deserves to be taken as a god. It teaches that true guidance begins with recognizing His exclusive right to be worshiped, and that any form of association or substitution is a departure from this fundamental truth.
Surah Al-Anbiyāʾ (21) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 25
“We sent no messenger before you except that We revealed to him: ‘There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.’”
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدُونِ
Context:
In a surah that reminds of the unity of the prophetic message, this verse establishes that all messengers carried the same statement: worship of Allah alone.
Surah Al-Muʾminūn (23) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 91
“Allah has not taken a child, nor is there any deity with Him. Otherwise, each deity would have taken what it created, and some would have overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe.”
مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدٍۢ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ ۚ إِذًۭا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَٰهٍۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Context:
This verse appears in a passage that refutes beliefs that associate partners with Allah. It affirms divine Oneness by showing the incoherence of multiple deities.
Surah An-Naml (27) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 26
“Allah! There is no deity except Him, Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
Context:
This verse appears in the story of Sulaymān Peace be upon him., when the hoopoe’s words about the people of Saba’ are related. It affirms Allah’s Oneness in the face of a people who prostrated to the sun.
Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ (28) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 88
“And do not invoke another deity with Allah. There is no deity except Him. Everything will perish except His Face. To Him belongs judgment, and to Him you will be returned.”
وَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۘ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
Context:
This verse teaches that nothing possesses true permanence or worth on its own. Every created thing is bound to fade, while only Allah remains. It directs the heart away from attachment to what is transient and toward the One who alone is eternal. It reminds that all return is to Him, and that ultimate meaning, judgment, and fulfillment belong solely to Him.
Surah Fāṭir (35) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 3
“O mankind! Remember Allah’s favor upon you. Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the sky and the earth? There is no deity except Him. How then are you turned away?”
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ هَلْ مِنْ خَٰلِقٍ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ
Context:
This verse addresses all humanity in a Meccan surah that recalls the signs of creation. Oneness is here linked to recognition of blessings and sustenance granted by Allah.
Surah Aṣ-Ṣāffāt (37) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 35
“When it was said to them: ‘There is no deity except Allah’, they would be arrogant.”
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
Context:
In a passage describing the reaction of the Meccan polytheists, this verse shows the proud refusal in the face of the call to Oneness, revealing the inner obstacle that prevented acceptance of tawḥīd. This verse highlights the inner resistance of the ego to pure monotheism. It shows that rejecting divine oneness is not always a matter of ignorance, but often one of pride. Accepting that there is only one God requires humility, because it means letting go of self-importance and deep-rooted attachments. The verse reveals that arrogance can become the true barrier between the heart and truth.
Surah Ṣād (38) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 65
“Say: ‘I am only a warner, and there is no deity except Allah, the One, the Supreme Subduer.’”
قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّارُ
Context:
This verse appears in a passage where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is told to remind of his mission as a warner. It proclaims Allah’s Oneness in the face of the rejection of the Meccan notables, centering the message on what is essential.
Surah Az-Zumar (39) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 6
“He created you from a single soul, then made from it its mate. And He sent down for you, from the livestock, eight pairs. He creates you in your mothers’ wombs, creation after creation, in three darknesses. That is Allah, your Lord. To Him belongs sovereignty. There is no deity except Him. How then are you turned away?”
خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍۢ وَٰحِدَةٍۢ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَأَنزَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ ثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَزْوَٰجٍۢ ۚ يَخْلُقُكُمْ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ خَلْقًۭا مِّنۢ بَعْدِ خَلْقٍۢ فِى ظُلُمَٰتٍۢ ثَلَٰثٍۢ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُ ۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصْرَفُونَ
Context:
In a Meccan surah centered on sincerity in worship, this verse links Allah’s Oneness to the very origin of human creation and the gift of life. From the earliest centuries, Qur’anic exegetes explained these “three layers of darkness” as:the darkness of the abdomen,that of the womb, and that of the coverings surrounding the fetus.Modern science now describes precisely three main layers that surround and protect the unborn child: the abdominal wall, the uterine wall, and the amniotic membranes.The verse does not present a lesson in biology, but it expresses in just a few words a reality that was invisible to the human eye at the time, with striking accuracy. This is why many see in it a sign of divine wisdom and knowledge, made accessible today in a way that earlier generations could only intuit.
Surah Ghāfir (40) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 3
“The Forgiver of sin, the Accepter of repentance, the Possessor of punishment, the One of abundant grace. There is no deity except Him. To Him is the return.”
غَافِرِ ٱلذَّنۢبِ وَقَابِلِ ٱلتَّوْبِ شَدِيدِ ٱلْعِقَابِ ذِى ٱلطَّوْلِ ۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ إِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
Context:
This verse opens the surah by presenting divine attributes. It places Oneness at the heart of a reminder about mercy, repentance, and the inevitable return to Allah.
Surah Ghāfir (40) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 62
“That is Allah, your Lord, the Creator of all things. There is no deity except Him. How then are you turned away?”
ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ
Context:
In a passage reminding of the signs of creation, this verse calls to recognize Allah as the one Lord, directly addressing those who turn away from this evident truth.
Surah Ghāfir (40) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 65
“He is the Living. There is no deity except Him. So call upon Him, devoting religion purely to Him. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.”
هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱدْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ ۗ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
Context:
This verse concludes a passage reminding of Allah’s power and eternal life. It invites directly to call upon Him with exclusive devotion, linking Oneness to sincerity of worship.
Surah Ad-Dukhān (44) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 8
“There is no deity except Him. He gives life and causes death. Your Lord and the Lord of your earliest ancestors.”
لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
Context:
This verse reminds that divinity belongs to Allah alone. It affirms that He is both the One who gives life and the One who causes death, and that no force, no idol, and no visible cause can rival Him.It calls for going beyond appearances and inherited habits to recognize a deeper truth: every beginning and every end are in His hands. Faith is not merely a tradition passed down, but an inner certainty grounded in the recognition of the One who holds the origin and the outcome of all existence.
Surah Muḥammad (47) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 19
“So know that there is no deity except Allah, and seek forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. Allah knows your movements and your resting place.”
فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ
Context:
In a surah revealed in Madinah, this verse addresses the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him., teaches that recognizing the oneness of God is the foundation of all genuine faith. It shows that knowing there is no deity but Allah is not merely a phrase to recite, but an inner awareness that transforms the heart and guides one’s entire life.The verse connects this truth to a living spiritual practice: knowing, then seeking forgiveness. It reveals that faith is not static, but accompanied by humility, return to Allah, and continuous purification. Acknowledging the One God thus becomes the source of a sincere journey, shaped by awareness of one’s limits and hope in divine mercy.
Surah Al-Muzzammil (73) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 9
“Lord of the East and the West. There is no deity except Him. So take Him as Trustee.”
رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًۭا
Context:
This verse is among the earliest revelations addressed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Peace and blessings of Allah, in the night prayer. It links Allah’s Oneness to complete reliance upon Him at the beginning of the prophetic mission.Verse 73:9 reminds that Allah is the Lord of both East and West, and that He alone deserves to be worshiped. It calls for making Him the only inner support, the sole stable reference in a changing world.It teaches that turning to Allah is choosing a conscious and peaceful reliance on the One who governs all things. It directs the heart toward exclusive trust, freeing it from fear and scattered attachments, and establishing Allah as the true refuge and ultimate support.

Following the verses expressing the testimony of Divine Oneness, the Qur’an also contains passages explicitly mentioning the Messenger Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, within the revealed text itself.
The following selection gathers Qur’anic verses in which Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is cited directly or referred to in relation to his mission, his role as messenger, and the reception of Revelation.
Thus, after the testimony of Divine Oneness, these passages complete the formulation of the shahada by mentioning the Messenger in the revealed text. They do not constitute a separate foundation, but clarify, within the Qur’an itself, the function of the Messenger connected to the proclamation of the Oneness of Allah

Surah Al-Baqarah (2) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 143
“And thus We have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the direction which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger (muhammad) from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it was difficult except for those whom Allah guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is Kind and Merciful to the people.”
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَٰكُمْ أُمَّةًۭ وَسَطًۭا لِّتَكُونُوا۟ شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَيَكُونَ ٱلرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًۭا ۗ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا ٱلْقِبْلَةَ ٱلَّتِى كُنتَ عَلَيْهَآ إِلَّا لِنَعْلَمَ مَن يَتَّبِعُ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِمَّن يَنقَلِبُ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ ۚ وَإِن كَانَتْ لَكَبِيرَةً إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ ۗ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَٰنَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِٱلنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ
Context:
This Medinan verse appears in the passage concerning the change of the Qibla. The Qur’an explains that this event distinguished those who followed the Messenger (muhammad) from those who hesitated or turned away. It presents the Prophet as witness over the community and establishes obedience to him as part of the lived faith.
Surah Āl-ʿImrān (3) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 144
“Muhammad is only a messenger — messengers passed on before him. So if he were to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels? And whoever turns back on his heels will never harm Allah at all; and Allah will reward the grateful.”
وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٌۭ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ ٱلرُّسُلُ ۚ أَفَإِي۟ن مَّاتَ أَوْ قُتِلَ ٱنقَلَبْتُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَٰبِكُمْ ۚ وَمَن يَنقَلِبْ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ فَلَن يَضُرَّ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًۭٔا ۗ وَسَيَجْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ
Context:
This verse addresses a moment of trial experienced by the early believing community. It reminds that the Messenger’s role is to convey revelation, and that faith remains attached to the divine message itself rather than to the permanence of the person. It places Muhammad within the continuity of the previous messengers.
Surah Al-Māʾidah (5) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 83
“And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger (muhammad), you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they recognized of the truth. They say: ‘Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.’”
وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ تَرَىٰٓ أَعْيُنَهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمْعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱكْتُبْنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ
Context:
This verse refers to a group of Christians who, upon hearing the revelation conveyed by the Prophet Muḥammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recognized the truth and were deeply moved. The Qur’an describes their sincere reaction: their eyes fill with tears, then they declare their faith and ask to be recorded among the witnesses. The passage highlights an attitude of listening, recognition, and humility before the revealed message.
Surah Al-Anʿām (6) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 7
“And even if We had sent down to you (muhammad) a written scripture on parchment so they could touch it with their hands, those who disbelieve would say: ‘This is nothing but obvious magic.’”
وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ كِتَٰبًۭا فِى قِرْطَاسٍۢ فَلَمَسُوهُ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ لَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
Context:
This Meccan verse addresses the persistent denial of the opponents of Revelation. The Qur’an shows that disbelief was not due to lack of evidence but to refusal, even if the message delivered through the Prophet (muhammad) had been made physically tangible.
Surah Al-Anʿām (6) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 8
“And they say: ‘Why was there not sent down to him (muhammad) an angel?’ But if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided; then they would not be reprieved.”
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكٌۭ ۖ وَلَوْ أَنزَلْنَا مَلَكًۭا لَّقُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ ثُمَّ لَا يُنظَرُونَ
Context:
The verse answers a demand frequently made by the Meccan opponents. It teaches that revelation through a human messenger is itself part of divine wisdom, and that an angelic manifestation would have ended the time of trial rather than opened the path to faith.
Surah Al-Anʿām (6) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 37
“And they say: ‘Why has a sign not been sent down upon him (muhammad) from his Lord?’ Say: ‘Indeed Allah is able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know.’”
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُنَزِّلَ ءَايَةًۭ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Context:
This passage recalls the repeated request for visible miracles. The Qur’an clarifies that the mission of the Prophet (muhammad) is to convey guidance, while signs remain subject to divine wisdom rather than human demand.
Surah Al-Qaṣaṣ (28) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 56
“Indeed, you (muhammad) do not guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the rightly guided.”
إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِى مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
Context:
This verse establishes a distinction between conveying the message and granting faith. The Prophet (muhammad) communicates revelation, but guidance itself remains an act of Allah alone.
Surah Al-Aḥzāb (33) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 40
“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. And Allah is Knowing of all things.”
مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٍۢ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًۭا
Context:
This Medinan verse clarifies the prophetic status of Muhammad. It distinguishes personal lineage from prophetic mission and establishes the finality of prophethood, presenting the Messenger as the last link in the chain of revelation.
Surah Yā-Sīn (36) — Meccan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 3
“Indeed, you (muhammad) are truly among the messengers.”
إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
Context:
In the opening of a Meccan surah, the Qur’an affirms directly the authenticity of the Prophet’s mission. The verse functions as a confirmation of the legitimacy of the message conveyed to a people who doubted its origin.
Surah Muḥammad (47) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 2
“And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad — and it is the truth from their Lord — He will remove from them their misdeeds and improve their condition.”
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍۢ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ كَفَّرَ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَأَصْلَحَ بَالَهُمْ
Context:
This verse links faith not only to belief in God but also to belief in the revelation brought by Muhammad. It shows that acceptance of the message and moral conduct are inseparable in the Qur’anic perspective.
Surah Al-Fatḥ (48) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 29
“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. And those with him are firm against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking bounty from Allah and His pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is like a seed that sends forth its shoot, then strengthens it, and it grows thick and stands upon its stem, delighting the sowers — so that He may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness and a great reward.”
مُّحَمَّدٌۭ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ تَرَىٰهُمْ رُكَّعًۭا سُجَّدًۭا يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًۭا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضْوَٰنًۭا ۖ سِيمَاهُمْ فِى وُجُوهِهِم مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ مَثَلُهُمْ فِى ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ ۚ وَمَثَلُهُمْ فِى ٱلْإِنجِيلِ كَزَرْعٍ أَخْرَجَ شَطْـَٔهُۥ فَـَٔازَرَهُۥ فَٱسْتَغْلَظَ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَىٰ سُوقِهِۦ يُعْجِبُ ٱلزُّرَّاعَ لِيَغِيظَ بِهِمُ ٱلْكُفَّارَ ۗ وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ مِنْهُم مَّغْفِرَةًۭ وَأَجْرًا عَظِيمًۢا
Context:
This verse describes the community formed around the Messenger and the transformation produced by revelation. It presents faith as a lived practice expressed through worship, solidarity, and moral discipline.
Surah Al-Baqarah (2) — Medinan surah (classical attribution) — Verse 252
“These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you (muhammad) in truth. And indeed, you are among the messengers.”
تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
Context:
This Medinan verse concludes a passage recounting earlier communities and prophets. It affirms that the recitation addressed to Muhammad belongs to the same continuity of revelation and confirms his place among the messengers entrusted with transmitting divine guidance.

Invocation (Dua)
O Allah, whose Word proclaims in every place that there is no deity but You,
open our hearts to the sincere understanding of Your Book.
Make these verses a light for us,
an inner certainty,
and a living reminder of Your Oneness.
Grant us to read with reverence,
to understand with clarity,
and to let this truth transform our thoughts, our words, and our actions.
Make the Shahada a reality in our hearts
before it becomes a word upon our lips.
